Although there is no listed date of publication, these appear to be from the early 1900's. This is the seventeenth revised edition, a travelogue written by english writer and painter Augustus Hare. There is, in addition to the two volumes, an "Index of Streets and Plans of Rome", pamphlet dated 1897, which has a fold out map and list of streets. The binding is secure. The pages have faded, although they don't have any markings, save a name on the front inside cover. Since much of Rome's history is antiquity, many of Hare's notes are still relevant for the modern traveler. They also provide a window into the atmosphere and layout of Rome in his day, before both World Wars.
