Based on a book by Charles Portis, True Grit follows the book closely in both character and plot. While the 1969 movie is wonderfully awful and stars John Wayne, the portrayal of the main character, Mattie Ross, was annoying, flat and strayed far from the book. This major flaw was rectified in this remake of the film; the characters are more dimensional and stay true to the characterization in the book and this movie surpasses the original. So if you enjoy fantastic western tales of vengeance and righteousness I cannot suggest a better movie.
