Heartbreaking and witty
I heard a radio interview of Sherman Alexie not long ago, and it piqued my interest. So, I ran across a copy and decided to give it a go. It does not disappoint. The characters are rich and complex, the emotions of 14-year-old "Junior," an Indian boy who transitions to a white school are skillfully navigated in the dialogue.
Alexie's National Book Award winner chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he thought he was destined to live. Includes poignant drawings that reflect the character's art.
