Saga is a one of a kind story that can only come from writer Brian K. Vaughan and can only be illustrated by Fiona Staples. This brilliant story follows Marco and Alana, soldiers from opposite sides, who are fleeing a war they want no part of with their newborn daughter, Hazel (who also narrates the story). Along the way, the family gets help from a band of unlikely characters including a ghost girl, a Cyclops writer and their in-laws. If you are looking to start reading comics, Saga is a great place to begin. Vaughan does an excellent job of creating alien science fiction characters while still making them accessible and relatable to the reader. At no point do you stop and think "a tree that's a space ship- that's not believable!" but instead you climb aboard alongside the characters and travel with them. Fiona Staples innovative art manages to capture both the absurd and the beautiful, which only makes the story that much more engaging. Saga is a complex and beautiful story that can reach across the graphic novel divide and speak to any reader who loves a compelling story told with wit, compassion and above all else, love.
When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to raise their child in a dangerous world.
