I've had a love of dinosaurs and paleontology since I was 4 years old. When I saw that Michael Crichton used people from paleontological history as characters for his book, I was intrigued and just had to check it out. It is based loosely on the real-life rivalry between paleontologists Marsh and Cope. It was a quick read that took me back to the days of the wild west. The story is about a Yale student who traveled to the west on a bet. He had no interest in paleontology it was just a means to win the wager. He ended up facing unsavory characters and gunfights all because of a sense of duty to finish the job he started and transport the dinosaur bones back east.
A recently discovered novel by the ER creator and best-selling author of Jurassic Park is set in the Wild West during the golden age of fossil hunting and follows the exploits of two ambitious paleontologists who sabotage each others' careers in a rivalry that came to be known as the Bone Wars. 1,000,000 first printing.
