The Danish Girl

by Tom Hooper
Average movie with great performance from Vikander.

The Danish Girl is an average movie with a one-note performance from Eddie Redmayne. The one real highlight of this movie is Alicia Vikander, winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Gerda Wegener. She plays a supporting wife even though the difficult times as she discovers her husband wants to be the first man to have transgender surgery. Directed by Tom Hooper. (Best Director winner for The King's Speech)

After standing in as a female model for a painting by his wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander), Danish artist Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) becomes enamored with his feminine identity and begins living as a woman named Lili Elbe. Although their marriage becomes strained, Gerda stands by Lili as she explores her true self and eventually undergoes one of the world's first gender-reassignment surgeries in the 1930s. This touching biopic was adapted from David Ebershoff's book of the same name, and helmed by director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech). Daniel Gelb, Rovi
