In this marvelous text, Christian Duverger unravels the mysteries surrounding it. Christopher Columbus was the chronicler of his own achievements: a journey and a discovery that changed the entire world. Upon his return to Spain, Columbus handed over his diary to the monarchs.
Ferdinand of Arag n, aware of the importance of the document, immediately ordered two scribes to make a copy. Upon the death of the Admiral, the "twohanded copy" passed to Columbus's son Diego, and twenty years later, made it to his half-brother, Hernando. A short time later, the royal copy disappeared forever. We know Columbus's captain's log by two versions: that of his son Hernando (who extracts himself from the biography he wrote of the Admiral) and that of Fray Bartolom de las Casas. This book unites both versions, making note of the similarities and discrepancies. Additionally,
Christian Duverger's edition includes another important document: the famous "Letter to Sant ngel," the first printed text to mention Columbus's discovery.
