Overview

COMPOST MORTEM is a gently humorous mystery that takes place in the well-to-do village of Deer Creek. Eunice Kingblade, President of the Deer Creek Garden Club, is found murdered in the village mulch site. Many people had reason to wish her dead. She was trying to prevent the developer Dash Lethaby from buying the mulch site in order to build houses there. Her husband Cuppy could no longer stand her and he was having an affair with a much younger woman. Over the years, Eunice's vindictive cruelty had affected members of the Deer Creek Garden Club and the rival Garden Club of St. James, as well as the mayor, the police and the Department of Public Works of Deer Creek. Grace Mere and Ivy Wilcoxen of the Deer Creek Garden Club decide to investigate Eunice's murder after the arrest of Dash Lethaby, whom they believe to be innocent. Their quest reveals the quirks, foibles, misunderstandings and sometimes the downright silliness of small town life. It also shows the good intentions, kindness and humor that can be found in life everywhere.
