I only came here to buy, so I cannot comment on selling here, which seems to be the topic of most of the negative reviews. But if you are looking to browse books (or DVDs or music), this was a good experience. The staff were friendly and willing to give recommendations. I have been to most of the HPB in DFW, and I visit four locations on a regular basis. HPB Ridgmars selection is on the bigger side, enough that the categories get as specific as quilting and Texas football. (In other words, there are a zillion books here). Honestly, its a bookworms delight. I found several books and DVDs from my to-read/to-watch lists. This HPB location also ranks toward the top in cleanliness and organization (books kept in alphabetical order and easy to find despite constant client browsing). The childrens area is clean and inviting, with stuffed toys to entice kids in. The store also has a few tables and chairs, which I appreciate more the older I get.
Half Price books always lives up to his name, was able to round out a collection by an author I enjoy for a third of what they would have cost me new! Friendly staff too in every location I have been in!
I was a fan of Half Price Books when I lived in Houston (Hyde Park! Montrose! Represent!) Then I moved to a place where there were no HPB, and I missed them. Now that I have wised up and returned to Texas, I get to shop in their stores across the state. Friendly book and media people. Plus bargains and lotsa cool merch. Maybe a cat. And a place to take that encyclopedia you want to get rid of.
